Tiny things

Streetfolk

I've been sorting all my paintbrushes and pencils into jars on my desk this morning, which made me ridiculously happy and excited.

Trainfolk

I'm going to be trying to upload a lot more odd sketches and scribbles.

Yo Adrienne!

Been busying myself with a couple of competitions. This is another one run by Little White Lies Magazine to portray one's favourite film within a black & white six-panel comic strip template, the idea being that someone who's never seen the film could interpret the full story by reading this comic. Tricky. I chose the mighty Rocky. I tried to show the central events and scenes while also communicating the tone and overall message of the film, and also to allude to it's supporting characters and motifs without distracting from the main story.

A bit of a rush in the end, but I enjoyed this loads. Quite a departure from what I usually do, but I learned a lot of stuff that's definitely feeding into my more everyday work already.

Bluesky

On the subject of windmills... This is also really old. I seemed to go through a little phase a while back where I'd paint skies ridiculous colours. In this case, it was bright yellow. I don't know what that was about. I just dug this out and photoshopped the blue in and it looks 100 times better. I never liked this painting (apart from 2 sheep), and it probably won't be on the new version of my website, but I thought I'd put it up here anyway.

I am working on some new stuff, honest.

The videos I posted yesterday don't seem to be working. I'm not sure why?

Sleepyhead Pat : )

Miller

This one is a (very) rough test for another animation that never got made. I was having a go at combining stop frame with drawn animation and some digital stuff. Ridiculously overambitious, to be honest. The story was about this miserable outcast whose job is to turn these windmills on and off everyday. A giant Godzilla-type monster was going to get involved at some point...

Apologies for the 20 seconds of black at the end of the sequence.

Some people might be surprised that this is the first blog post I've ever made that has windmills in it. And I've never posted anything with ducks in it either.

Play

I'm just uploading a couple of little animations from last year. This first one is a project based on a given set of shapes and words. So I had a little fiddle around on Flash, focusing on trying to get some believable movement and to draw a bit of personality out of simple shapes. It's supposed to loop, but I'm not sure if it'll do that on here.
